Consistent quality is an essential part of modern manufacturing. These instruments may be used in the control of incoming raw materials to perform colour matching either by computer output or by eye. Abrasion resistance, adhesion, fading and ageing tests are also widely performed using these instruments.

This is used to; for example, compare colour pigments from different suppliers. An RK Print instrument would be used to run out the pigments on the same material and compare colour and hideability for the customer to approve.
For example, manufacturers would use an RK instrument to put a colour on a substrate and then determine if the colour fades in the sun or comes off at low temperature.
